wieder is a German article-learning app. This policy describes what the app collects, what it does not, and why.
The short version: your learning stays on your device. There are no accounts, and nothing you study is uploaded.
What stays on your device
All of the following is stored locally and never sent anywhere:
- Your vocabulary progress — which words you have seen, answered correctly or incorrectly, and the scheduling state the spaced-repetition algorithm keeps for each word.
- Your streak, XP, daily goal, and achievements.
- Your practice history — the per-day review counts behind the progress charts.
- Your settings — daily goal, reminder preference, and hint options.
This data lives in the app's own storage. Deleting the app deletes it. Because there is no account and no cloud backup, this data is also not recoverable if you delete the app or change devices.
What leaves your device
Word data (download only)
The German word list is included in the app itself, so the app works without a connection. When it does have one, it checks Google Firebase Storage on startup for an updated copy. This is a one-way download. Nothing about you is sent as part of it.
Anonymous usage analytics
The app uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand whether the app works — for example, how often a started practice session is finished, and whether people reach their daily goal.
These events contain only counts and durations, such as:
- that a practice session started or finished, with the number of words reviewed, the accuracy as a whole percentage, and how long it took
- that a daily goal was reached
- that onboarding was completed, with the daily goal chosen and whether reminders were enabled
- that an achievement was unlocked
- that the app was opened by tapping a reminder, with the number of words that reminder said were waiting
No German words, translations, answers, or anything you have typed are ever included in these events.
As part of providing analytics, Google also automatically collects standard technical information, including a randomly generated app instance identifier, your device model and operating system version, your app version, and an approximate region derived from your IP address. Google does not receive your name, email address, or precise location. This identifier is not linked to any account, because wieder has no accounts.
You can turn this off. Settings → Share anonymous usage data. Switching it off stops collection on your device, including the automatic technical information described above — it is not merely hidden or discarded later. It is on unless you turn it off, and the choice is remembered.
Analytics is disabled entirely in development builds.
What the app does not do
- It does not ask you to create an account or sign in.
- It does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts.
- It does not track your precise location.
- It does not contain advertising or advertising trackers. The Android advertising identifier permission that the analytics library requests by default is explicitly removed from the app's manifest, so no advertising ID is available to the app or collected from it.
- It does not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising.
- It does not make in-app purchases.
Notifications
If you allow it, the app schedules a single daily reminder when you have words due for review. These reminders are generated on your device — the app has no push-notification server, and no one is notified that you have or have not practised. You can turn reminders off at any time in your device settings.
Speech
Word pronunciation uses your device's built-in German text-to-speech voice. Depending on your device's own settings, this may be processed on-device or by your operating system's speech service. wieder does not record or transmit audio, and never accesses your microphone.
Children
wieder is a general-audience language-learning app. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
Your choices
- Stop analytics collection: turn off Share anonymous usage data in Settings. Nothing further is collected from your device from that point on. Because there is no account, there is no server-side profile to delete; anything already collected is anonymous and expires under Google's retention policy.
- Stop reminders: turn off notifications for wieder in your device settings.
- Delete everything: deleting the app removes all local learning data permanently.

Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the updated date at the top will change and the new version will be published at the same address.
